Is College Fit Project really free?
Yes. You can sign up, create a student profile, add one college, and see a full CollegeFit Score with zero payment required — no credit card, no trial period. When you’re ready to build out a real list of colleges, unlocking a student for $19 removes all limits.
How is this different from Naviance, Niche, or college rankings?
Rankings like US News rank colleges based on prestige metrics that apply to everyone equally. Naviance is a school-managed platform focused on applications and deadlines. Niche aggregates reviews and ratings, but the scores reflect average opinions, not your priorities. College Fit Project does something different: it lets you define what matters — tuition, campus size, climate, safety, program quality — weights those by importance, and computes a score that reflects your priorities, not a magazine editor’s. The result is a ranking that’s personal to you.
Where does the college data come from?
Most data comes from the U.S. Department of Education’s College Scorecard — tuition, acceptance rates, SAT/ACT averages, enrollment, graduation rates, and median post-grad earnings. Campus safety scores come from federal Clery Act filings. Climate data comes from NOAA’s 30-year weather normals. For custom factors, our AI evaluates each college on criteria you describe in plain English.
Is my data private?
Yes. Your student profiles, college lists, and factor weights are private to your account. We don’t sell your data or share it with colleges. See our Privacy Policy for the full details.
